Jessica Freely Brings the Gorgeous Guys of UNLAWFUL

Hi everyone--
Great week for guests! Welcome my friend Jessica Freely who is bringing us a nibble of her new MM scifi romance that will take you to a fascinating world! It's called UNLAWFUL. If you leave a comment with your email, you may win your choice of books from Jessica's backlist in her drawing on Feb 3rd! Here's Jessica to introduce us to one of her gorgeous guys (I'm in love already!) Hi Jessica!

Hello everyone and thank you for joining us today! A big hug to lovely Tara for having me over. I've brought someone else with me, as you'll see.

I thought it would be fun to talk to the heroes of Unlawful, each of them on their own and then later together. Since Tara loves pretty boys, of course, Larke was the obvious choice for her blog. Here we go.

A tall, slender man with shoulder-length blond hair, wearing dress slacks and a white shirt open at the collar, looks about himself with some concern. "Where am I?"

"You're in the blogosphere, Larke. It's a place between stories, where I sometimes send my characters to talk about their books."

His concern becomes alarm and he turned in place, trying to find the location of the disembodied voice that just spoke to him. "Who are you? Where are you?"

"I'm Jessica Freely, and I'm your author."

"Oh shit. My author?"

"Yes."

"So… you decide what happens to me."

"Yep."

"And it's because of you that I met Droje?"

"Uh huh."

He brightens. "Oh. Well, thank you!"

"So what do you think of him?"

He looks left and right. "Can he hear me?"

"Nope."

Bites lip and leans in. "Okay, I know we've only just met and he's an outlaw and all but…" He smiles. "I really like him."

"You mean like, like like him?"

He nods. "It's not just that he fucks like a jackhammer. It's… him… he's… I'm still not entirely sure about this business about freeing the uncons? But the fact that he cares so much about it, about them, and me, and his team, makes me think maybe there really is something to it. I can't imagine him being involved in something that was really wrong, you know?"

"I think so. And it's not as if your world doesn't have few things in it that are considered wrong, but aren't."

"Yeah, like liking men." He pauses, frowns. "Hey, did you decide it would be that way?"

"Uh… Let's get back to Droje. He's hot, right?"

"Oh yeah. And he doesn't make me feel like there's something wrong with me for wearing my hair long and for the way I look… or for wanting him."

"I thought the two of you would hit it off."

"I'm really glad I met him. Something tells me my life is going to be different from now on."

"Different?"

"Better. More meaningful."

"Ah. Good. Thanks Larke. "

Now here's an excerpt from Unlawful.

In a world where being gay is unlawful and slavery is legal, two men fight for their lives, for their desires, and for justice. Larke is a corporate lackey with a secret. Droje is a freedom fighter on the run. Each spells trouble for the other, but the passion between them will not be denied, no matter what the risk.

Up ahead a crowd spilled out of the Orchid, a nightclub popular among his coworkers. Laughter echoed up the street. Larke slackened his pace, studying the group. He didn't want to run into anyone from his office, especially out here, after hours, outside the bounds of corporate propriety. He didn't want to hear what they might say to him. He didn't want to risk what his reaction might be.
He spotted Prinde among the revelers. Shit. The very last person Larke wanted to see. He had to get out of here before they spotted him.
An alley loomed ahead. Fear slithered up Larke's spine at the prospect of taking refuge there. Escaped uncons were known to hang out in such places, just waiting for the opportunity to attack the unwary.
"What's next, ladies and gents?" Prinde and his friends started heading Larke's way. In a moment they'd spot him.
Larke ducked down the alley.
It was dark, and dirty. Trash lay strewn on the ground in damp heaps. Larke's pulse quickened. This looked exactly like the sort of place where a good, law-abiding Hanovan would get jumped by rogue uncons.
Except Larke wasn't exactly good or law abiding.

  12. Wow! Thanks everyone! Unlawful is a bit of an experiment because I've never sold a self-published short story. I hope everyone will enjoy reading Larke and Droje's story as much as I did writing it. :)
